Cost of living in Danville runs about 29 percent below the national average, which keeps operating expenses manageable, but it also means most local businesses are thinly staffed and cannot absorb a bad month of missed calls or backlogged invoices the way a larger metro competitor might.

Meanwhile, real reinvestment is happening: Vermilion Advantage commissioned a feasibility study for the East Voorhees Street industrial corridor in 2025, the city adopted its 2050 Danville Comprehensive Plan in July 2026 to guide the next quarter century of development, and an Orlando-based development firm, Aurum Developments LLC, opened a Midwest headquarters at 57 N. Vermilion St.
